Interconnected Futures: Centering Land, Justice, Resistance and Solidarity in a Complex World

The Canadian Association for Social Work Education—Association canadienne pour la formation en travail social (CASWE-ACFTS) invites you to participate in our upcoming conference to be held June 4th – 7th at the University of Ottawa, Demarais Building, situated on the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people. CASWE-ACFTS is honoured to be organizing the conference in collaboration with the University of Ottawa’s School of Social Work and Faculty of Social Sciences.

At a time when social work education and social workers must navigate urgent and unprecedented challenges—including rising global inequalities and violence, climate and ecological crises, forced migration, political polarization, and renewed struggles against colonial and systemic violence—this theme calls us to reimagine the purpose and practice of our profession. It invites educators, researchers, students, practitioners, and community partners to reflect on how our pedagogies, research agendas, and community collaborations can more intentionally centre relationships to land, confront structures of power, and cultivate forms of solidarity capable of sustaining collective well-being. By foregrounding interdependence in a world that often encourages more and more isolation and fragmentation, Interconnected Futures challenges us to build social work education that is responsive, critical, and grounded in the knowledges and leadership of communities most affected by injustice.
